• Block heater usage — We strongly recommend using a block heater overnight when temperatures drop below zero. If your truck doesn't have a block heater, we can install one.
• Battery demand — Diesel engines require massive cranking amperage. Two healthy batteries in parallel are standard on most diesel trucks, and both must be in good condition.
• DEF freezing — Diesel Exhaust Fluid freezes at 12 degrees Fahrenheit. The vehicle's DEF system has a heater to thaw it, but if the heater fails, the DEF system can malfunction and trigger derating.
